Has the UK lost its mojo, or is it entering a new era of caring?

Something unusual is happening to all of us, but what is it?

The following article represents the opinion of one person and is not necessarily the policy or generally accepted view of the majority practising Sahaja Yoga.

The problem with Britain is that it has lost its unique identity. I am not the only one who feels this way. I have talked about it with my friends who are also in their 60s and they completely agree. I want to clarify that I am not just an old guy complaining about how things were better in the past. On the contrary, there were issues in the past that I am glad to see have been left behind, such as casual racism, sexism, and social class divisions.

In the UK, we sometimes feel envious when we see that citizens in most other countries have “a thing” that makes their country special. It gives them purpose and a collective reason to start their day. Unfortunately we lack that in the UK now. I’ve never been a fan of patriotism in any country. In my opinion, this patriotic attitude is an example of what we could call “bubble thinking,” where you create your own world with things that make you comfortable, and you start believing it’s the only way to live. If you can hold onto those comforting things and ways of living, then you feel happy and motivated. In my opinion this only leads to narrow-mindedness and racism.

I used to view myself as “an Engineer”, which defined my identity, and I would look at situations in the way I believed an Engineer should. Engineering was my bubble and I took pride in my accomplishments which provided a sense of meaning in life. However, none of this was based on reality. It was all a product of my own imagination. Eventually, I came to acknowledge that I am just like any other person in this world – neither more nor less. I am someone who happens to work in the field of Engineering.

If you visit more traditional societies, you will often find that people enjoy, and are engaged with, their lives more than we do with ours. Here, in the past, even in my lifetime, most people believed in God and “British Values” and the confidence that came with that made it easy to live a happy life without worrying about feeling guilty for simply existing. Nowadays this isn’t possible because we think we know too much and those old, simple, comfortable values seem to be unsustainable. You know how things are now. Everything in the UK is constantly questioned and criticized. People in the UK tend to have a negative outlook on what the government does and what happens publicly. This negativity really hinders progress, but that’s the reality.

Now, you might think that I am not happy about this fact, but no. I am, in a way. The reason is, that I believe that the traditional goal of material success has lost its appeal for many. There is a desire for something else to happen apart from constantly trying to make money, and now is the right time for this to happen. The UK public is in a good position to recognize this next stage in our journey because, historically, it was one of the first to experience the trappings of material success. People have become tired of the material progress that citizens of many countries are still striving for. So, what is the next stage that we are waiting for? I propose that it is nothing less than the first moment in history when we can all become aware of the higher, invisible realms of our consciousness. This is happening through a physical change in the human central nervous system that we are calling “Inner Awakening”. It’s definitely not a minor development!

I have been introducing Sahaja Yoga (aka. “Vishwa Nirmala Dharma”) to others for about thirty five years now. From my experience I’m certain that it offers something thoroughly unique, which is the experience of “Inner Awakening” which can be felt on the central nervous system in moments. It is like a switch turning on a light, the first time you try it.  It gives you the inner tools necessary to change yourself completely to a better state.  In those thirty five years, I have compared this with every other practise out there, and know that this is the real thing in an ocean of cheap and ineffective imitations.  It is always free as well, so you owe it to yourself to give it a go.  More info is to be found here.

So, have we lost our Mojo?  Yes, of course. It was inevitable because our original reason-for-living in the UK, was based on material success, which only every gives temporary happiness.  Can we get it back again?  Yes, you bet we can, if we all achieve our Inner Awakening. Then we can settle in to a new state where we are calm, peaceful and fully satisfied with all that we have and the desire for more and more “stuff” becomes a thing of the past.  In this state, we get our greatest satisfaction from helping others.  It’s already happening, which is why the current generation are rejecting material advancement for a way of living that is more eternal and sustainable.

Inner awakening completes that journey and ensures a permanent change in individuals and society.  That is the key to regaining our character as a nation.  The character of a country that is kind, generous, caring and open to all.  I can’t wait!  Can you?
