Who are we? We are a group of people who practise Sahaja Yoga meditation every day, and we care deeply about humanity and the Earth. We know that the answers to all the world’s problems depend on all of us on planet Earth achieving our Inner Awakening. This isn’t an opinion based on blind faith but it comes from actual experience of the workings of the subtle system in the body gained through attaining Inner Awakening. It is supported by a knowledge of the history of spirituality and scriptures of all religions which, rather than being divided, actually have a common theme relating to what we are experiencing now at this crucial moment in history.

For thousands of years, it has been understood that human beings can experience the awakening of an inner mothering energy known as the “Kundalini”. There are many different terms applied to this process. It is often called “Enlightenment” which leads to a process of cleansing of our whole being, known as “Self Realisation”.  This Inner Awakening is the point at which a person can suddenly experience a connection with the creative force in the Universe, part of which is present in all living things.  This leads to an expansion of our awareness so that we can experience our connection with the whole of nature, humanity and the created universe.  This change also clears problems in the subtle system in our body, which automatically relieves physical problems, illness and the mental imbalances that we are experiencing.  Humanity needs this transformation urgently, and it seems to be the appropriate time for this to happen.

To provide an answer for this need, In 1923 a lady called “Nirmala Shrivastava” was born in India.  She led a remarkable life which resulted in her creating a worldwide collective practise known as “Sahaja Yoga”.  She awakened the Kundalini energy in thousands of people, who have then been able to pass it on to others, like a candle lighting another candle.  She later became known as “Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi” and is regarded as a modern-day saint by many.  Her lifelong principle was that this inner, Kundalini Awakening should always be given free-of-charge to everybody.  Inner Awakening is something that everybody can achieve very simply – in moments – and we do not have to change our way of life to experience it.

All the people of the world can experience this remarkable change, so they can enjoy its benefits themselves.  There is no need to take on the practise of Sahaja Yoga for many of its benefits to be felt – the main requirement is to achieve Inner Awakening.  This is a simple act, taking moments to achieve, and to experience it one only needs to put one’s attention on the higher energy in the universe for a moment in the right environment.  It is not hypnosis.

The changes can be felt in the central nervous system and lead to sensations in the fingers and the rest of the body, which we can use to show the connection clearly between all human beings and the universe itself.  By doing this, we can begin to make the right choices about how to treat things in the natural environment and also our own lives and society in general.

Sahaja Yoga is different from regular organisations because it is controlled by the people who practice it. It has a basic structure that helps organize events, but nothing more than what is absolutely necessary. Its main purpose is to facilitate awareness and experience of the natural process of Kundalini Awakening. This is something we all have the right to experience, so creating a large organization around it doesn’t make sense. We are used to operating with limited funds, and Sahaja Yoga can easily exist in this way. Local meetings are run by volunteers who may ask for a small contribution to cover the venue expenses, but nothing more. Bigger projects are funded through voluntary contributions. If people don’t think it’s worth contributing, then the project doesn’t happen – it’s that simple! We like this approach because it avoids complicated financial arrangements and allows all practitioners to focus on the things that really matter.
