It seems that most people in the U.K. wouldn’t…

The thing I am talking about is “Sahaja Yoga” and I, along with a few million other people have been enjoying it for decades – and wow has it made a difference to me!
I can say that with absolute confidence because before I came across it I had all sorts of inner issues that needed to be dealt with – the worst of which was what we now call bipolar disorder. My mental state would swing between energised happiness and the deepest gloom. Not a great situation for somebody who was trying to hold a difficult job down and pay a mortgage. As soon as I started doing Sahaja Yoga though, everything changed and those moods just became a constant calm state which remains to this day, nearly forty years later.
With something as good and as easy as this – and free of charge as well – you would think that very soon, everybody would catch on to it and be doing it, but no, that hasn’t happened to any great extent – in the UK anyway. It is different in some other countries – particularly India, but here, no! and it’s not for lack of trying either. The people practising Sahaja Yoga are of course very keen to pass it on to others, but most of them have found that it is surprisingly difficult to persuade people to sit down for the 10 minutes needed to try it, so why is that?
I have been introducing others to Sahaja Yoga for most of the time that I have been practising it, so I have heard all the excuses, ranging from lack of time to religious beliefs, racism (with respect to the founder) and the practising of other disciplines which we know to be expensive and ineffective. In the end, I feel that it is a lot to do with the fact that we are British and have in inbuilt caution about things we are not familiar with. Sometimes this helps us but not always.
The founder of Sahaja Yoga, Mrs Nirmala Shrivastava (a.k.a. Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi) talked about this phenomenon.
She said “But you will be amazed, people don’t come for meditation because they don’t want to do it…… When will they come? (in their) next life? When are they going to seek themselves, why are they saving time? Just to seek themselves. We have to seek our Selves, there’s no way out. You are not going to be in joy unless and until you seek your Self.”
Here, “Seeking Your Self” is a reference to finding your true purpose in life which is acheived through getting a physical change in the body known as Inner awakening which leads to “Self Realisation”. This connection happens in moments when you first try Sahaja Yoga meditation.
Sahaja Yoga is really amazing, oh and did I mention – it’s free as well!
